College Football Week 12

American Game of the Week: 21 Memphis (8-2) @ Temple (8-2)

The Temple Owls come into this game following a tough road loss against USF. They currently have a one-game lead on the Bulls in the AAC East heading into this week with the Bulls set to host Cincinnati on Friday night. Memphis’ hopes of making it to the conference championship game are all but over, as they trail both Houston and Navy by two games in the AAC West division, after losing at Houston last week. Although Temple has more to play for in this game, I think that gives an edge to Memphis since they won’t have as much pressure on their shoulders. Temple’s defense will have the most pressure in this game as it goes up against standout quarterback Paxton Lynch after giving up 556 yards of total offense against USF last week. The Owls have given up an average of 473.3 yards a game in the past three weeks.

Spread: Memphis -2

Prediction: Memphis 28 – Temple 16

Pick: Memphis

Big 12 Game of the Week: 10 Baylor @ 6 Oklahoma St.

The Big 12 continues to get snubbed by the NCAA playoff committee and things could get even more complicated after this week. Oklahoma St. should be able to make its way into the top four with wins against Baylor and Oklahoma to round out the season, but neither one of those are easy games to say the least. Baylor’s high-powered offense will be a great match-up against the Cowboys this weekend. West Virginia should’ve beaten Oklahoma St. earlier this year and the Mountaineers got destroyed by Baylor. The Cowboys have been punished by the committee for not having any “quality wins.” The debate will be over after this week, either because the Cowboys have silenced the critics, or because they proved them right.

Spread: Pick ‘Em

Prediction: Baylor 34 – Oklahoma St. 31

Pick: Baylor

Pac 12 Game of the Week: UCLA @ 13 Utah

It’s been a disaster trying to predict the Pac 12 this year and it doesn’t get any easier this week. Utah is currently tied with USC for first place in the South division while UCLA is right there, only a game behind. This should be the classic match-up of a high-powered offense against a stingy defense. A win for UCLA should put them in the top-25 while a win for Utah could propel them into the top ten, depending on how impressive they are. With a season-ending home game against Colorado next week, Utah could all but guarantee a trip to the Pac 12 championship game with a win this weekend. However, with a season-ending game against USC next week, UCLA could come from behind and win the South division with back-to-back wins to end their year. This game has a “Pac 12 playoff” feel to it.

Spread: Utah -1.5

Prediction: UCLA 20 – Utah 27

Pick: Utah
