CFB Games of the Week, Week 13
Big 10 Game of the Week:
Ohio State (10-1) @ Michigan (9-2)
The disappointed Buckeyes head into the “Big House” to take on the rejuvenated Wolverines in Urban Meyer’s and Jim Harbaugh’s first ever meeting as head coaches. This game still has Big 10 championship & playoff implications for the Buckeyes, as their loss to Michigan State last week ruined Michigan’s Big 10 championship hopes, but that doesn't mean they can't still play spoiler to the Buckeyes’ season. If the Buckeyes can pull off the “W” and Michigan State slips up to Penn State, then Ohio State will head into the Big 10 Championship game to face Iowa, and increase their playoff chances. What will give in this renewed rivalry?
Spread: Ohio State @ Michigan -1.5
Pick: Ohio State +1.5
SEC Game of the Week:
Alabama (10-1) @ Auburn (6-5)
The Crimson Tide visits the Tigers in the battle of the Iron Bowl. Alabama has been a juggernaut since slipping up against Ole Miss, while Auburn has been struggling to stay above .500. The Tide need to win this matchup to clinch the SEC West and face the Gators in the SEC championship. Auburn will be trying to secure a bowl berth, but that will be a tough task against this hot Alabama team. At least Auburn has home field advantage going for them.
Spread: Alabama -13.5 @ Auburn
Pick: Alabama -13.5
ACC Game of the Week:
Florida State (9-2) @ Florida (10-1)
The Florida State Seminoles make a trip to Ben Hill Griffin stadium to take on their interstate rivals, the Florida Gators. Florida State’s chances for the ACC championship & playoffs were squandered after their loss to Clemson, but that shouldn't diminish this team’s play when they take on the Gators Saturday night, as they look to spoil the Gators’ playoff chances. The Gators have already wrapped up a mediocre SEC East as they await their opponent to emerge from the SEC West, which will either be Alabama or Ole Miss. The Gators need to win this game to keep their playoff hopes alive, but that won't come easy against a good Florida State team.
Spread: Florida State -2 @ Florida
Pick: Florida +2
Big 12 Game of the Week:
Oklahoma (10-1) @ Oklahoma State (10-1)
The Sooners head into Stillwater, OK for a match-up with the rival Cowboys. This game is essentially the Big 12 championship game, since the Big 12 lacks one of those. Oklahoma moved into the top four of the playoff rankings this week and should be able to clinch a spot with a victory on Saturday. The Cowboys will be looking to bounce back from their loss against Baylor last week that put an end to their undefeated season. An Oklahoma win likely puts them in the playoffs, but an Oklahoma State win will likely mean more chaos for the Big 12. Instead of it being TCU and Baylor sharing a title, Baylor and Oklahoma State would share the Big 12 title (as long as Baylor beats TCU this weekend), and it would most likely be a repeat of last year, where neither team with shares of the Big 12 championship will make the four-team playoff.
Spread: Oklahoma -7 @ Oklahoma State
Pick: Oklahoma State +7
Pac 12 Game of the Week
Notre Dame (10-1) @ Stanford (9-2)
Notre Dame has been in and out of the top four these past few weeks. A win against Stanford could put the Fighting Irish back into the playoff rankings, especially with Iowa looking at two tough games to end their season and the Big 12 teams potentially knocking each other out of contention. If Notre Dame can beat the Cardinal, they have a great chance of being in the playoffs. On the other hand, a win for Stanford gives them a great chance to sneak into the top four if they can also win the Pac 12 championship game. Losses from Iowa and Oklahoma would really help Stanford’s case to make the playoffs if they’re able to beat the Fighting Irish.
Spread: Notre Dame @ Stanford -3.5
Pick: Stanford -3.5
AAC Game of the Week
Navy (9-1) @ Houston (10-1)
The winner of this game will earn a trip to the American championship game against either Temple or South Florida. The health of Greg Ward Jr. will be the main factor in this game. If he’s healthy and the Cougars can slow down the rushing attack of Navy, then I could see Houston taking the upset here. On the other hand, no one else has been able to stop Navy all year, so why would Houston be able to? A win for Navy leaves only their rivalry against Army to end the year. The Midshipmen will likely finish the year will one loss heading into the American championship game, leaving only one more victory for a major bowl game on New Year’s. Houston gains a slight edge for being at home, but expect Navy to run all over the Cougars on their way to an easy win.
Spread: Navy -1 @ Houston
Pick: Navy -1
